Flies in the Bullets Shack

(A Vietnam War story regarding Flies, 1971)

It was a warm afternoon within the ammo dump, in the bullets shack-consisting of two rooms, walls produced out of plywood, floors or inlays of long solid wood boards-flat timber regarding the most portion, you could see through their cracks, placed crooked alongside a single another; also the shack was a smite lopsided, practically wobbly, and extremely broken. Planted about four by 4 beams underneath the floorboards, about a fifty percent foot high, numerous soft white fine sand that surrounded that, providing an playground intended for the lizards to engage in excitement, unnoticed.

I transported a semi aged ‘Stars and Whitening strips, ‘ magazine with me at night when I acquired to visit the ammo shack (where us all soldiers did the paperwork for aide and distributing of ammunition towards the convoys arriving from various locations within the area.

I carried of which old ‘Stars and even Strips, ‘ magazine for a month, until a new one came out, and used that to swish apart flies. These people were everywhere in the ammo shack-we were infested with these, with their own buzzing around while if we have been invaders: fat plus thin bellied documents; some dark some others light shads associated with dark, long and even short winged lures, biting your palms and face, and ears, behind your neck, swarming around you, sneaking up your shirt sleeves, snorkeling into your eyes as though they were small punishing missiles, trained by the Vietcong to annoy you. – 12 ga shot , us!

There were dead or declining flies, also jogging flies on all the three desks in the two rooms of the shack, filling the atmosphere with putrid debris, aiming to one’s mouth, although quite content if they missed, and simply landed on your own lips. They polluted everything, clinging, plus climbing, and even several crawling, within their fastest gait possible, specially the big extra fat bellied ones, they would try to obtain away but I would swat them, however leaving a dumpy-bloody mess, I seriously attempted to simply scare them away, but like I said before-or implied, these were already brained washed and ready to sacrifice their existence for the result in.
